I went to Germany! In case you didn’t know. I left last Thursday and came back on Monday. I was there visiting family friends who happen to be living in the cutest German town, and happy accident, I was going to be there during Oktoberfest! So of course we went, but this time to the one in Stuttgart as it was close to where they live.
When my Grandpa mentioned about wanting to go to the New York State fair, I invited myself along, and my cousin came too. Family trip to the fair! Just like old times. The fair is held at the Syracuse fair grounds every year, which is just over an hour away from where I grew up in the Fingerlakes.
When I was told that you should take provisions with you on a road trip around Iceland because there weren’t a lot of restaurants, I was ready to be armed with a bagful of granola bars and nuts. While sometimes there aren’t a lot of choices, the ones that are there seemed pretty good to me. In between visiting waterfalls working our way back to Reykjavik, we came across a small cafe called Gamla Fjósið. If you are out in this direction I’d recommend a stop.
We had a day full of glaciers when we started our drive back along the south coast of Iceland. We got up early to grab breakfast and stop off at Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon before doing our glacier hike later in the day. Being so close to the glaciers was incredible, and you can easily stop off and walk around without going on one of the boat tours, but I’d recommend them as it we learned a bit about the glaciers forming and interesting facts. Not to mention we got to try a piece of glacier!
One of the things that we definitely wanted to do when we booked to visit Iceland was to go on a whale watch. We put together a tentative schedule to drive around and figured Húsavík in the North would be the perfect spot. We booked our whale watch the week we booked our tickets to be sure we got a spot, and it was completely worth it.
