Life Lately #83

May 2, 2019

When I went back to find the last time I did a ‘Life Lately’ catchup post, I realised while I’ve been sharing little bits of what we’ve been doing right along, the last time I did one of these posts was over a year ago! Well I’ll be remedying that, as little life roundup posts are some of my favourites to read, so I hope you don’t mind too much if I do a little info and photo dump from time to time and share what I’ve been doing that may not warrant a blog post on its own.

Right before leaving for Japan the end of March I went on a girls weekend to see Magic Mike in London. It was SO much fun, both the weekend and the show with some of my favourite women. We went to an amazing brunch spot in Marleybone called The Providores where I ordered the turkish egg, which was basically poached eggs swimming in chilli butter, yum. It was right down the road from prettiest bookstore in London Daunt Books, so we popped in for a browse.

We then headed for a walk around Regent’s park and Sarah went on her first peddalo with Bev. They were so happy. We then headed to Camden to fight the crowds and have a pint before heading to the show later and meeting up with my favourite kiwi Emma.I suppose the biggest thing I’ve done since I last updated this blog, was that we went to Japan for two weeks! It was the biggest sort of ‘vacation’ trip I’ve ever been on, two solid weeks of nothing but taking in another culture, seeing different sights, cities, temples, and of course eating all the new food. I’ve never not worked and just soaked it all in for that long since we went on our month long road trip on our last month living in New Zealand. I saw so many cherry blossoms I think I may have actually gotten blossomed out (just kidding, that’s not possible). I loved my colourful lightweight JORD wooden watch on our trip. I felt like it definitely belonged amongst the cherry blossoms. It’s the last couple days to enter my competition to win $100 towards your own wood watch, so click here to quickly enter your details for your chance to win.

While our trip was glorious, I had a lot to come back to. As soon as I got home, I had a little work shakeup. I’m still doing work for my previous employer and keeping all my existing social media clients (whom I love), but I’m also going freelance! So more freedom to set my own hours and take on some exciting new projects. So far my hours have basically been 24/7 though as I work to get my website and other plans in order, but I’ve been squeezing in some fun every now and again.

After getting back, we had a trip to London booked on Easter Sunday to go and see Rufus Wainwright at Royal Albert Hall. We saw him last year and he was incredible, so we jumped at buying tickets for this performance. I’ve been dying to go to something at this iconic music venue, and it did not disappoint. Rufus’ powerful voice was a perfect fit and it was a fantastic show.As the sun was making a rare occurrence on a bank holiday weekend, we spent our Monday visiting another place that has been on my list, Kew Gardens. I felt like I’d bigged it up in my head and it wouldn’t live up to it, but it was so pretty. What really made our trip though was the Chihuly exhibit, I’ll share photos later so you can see how awesome it is and book your tickets while the exhibit is on, because you should.

Next up though, I’ll share our first Temple experience in Japan. It was actually the first thing we really did even, and it set the precedent for the entire trip and we realised we were going to quickly fall in love with japan. So keep your eyes peeled as I’ve got lots of photos and stories lined up!

I will dream of the garlic mashed potatoes and truffle mac and cheese until I have them again. Everything was delicious except the sticky toffee pudding wasn’t anything to write home about, so grab the creme brûlée instead. Go with a friend who will share so you can try more dishes!

So this Christmas season was a pretty special one but also draining as there’s so many emotions swirling round this time of year that no one talks about.

Here’s to more adventures in 2023 and hopefully some more calm moments!
