Whenever I don’t blog for a while, I struggle with how to get back into it. Do I apologise and explain why I’ve been away? What if I don’t have any explanation other than, I didn’t feel like it? Is that good enough? Do I just jump back in with all the posts I have in my mind of things to write about? Blogging is weird. So I’ll just say I’ve been busy adulting and doing things and here’s some photos of a pretty great day trip we took to Whitby in July.
The first thing we did upon arriving was head to this cute B&B to meet one of Adam’s dad’s friends from his teenage years who he’s still friends with today. We’ve heard so much about him it was fun to meet him in person and hear the stories of the trouble they used to get into. The B&B looked lovely and was really well situated just a ten minutes walk downhill to the centre. Hopefully we get the chance to stay for a long weekend.
When it was time for lunch, we had hopes of going to The Magpie, a very sought after seafood restaurant which normally has lines down the road. Not thinking we’d get in we walked right up to no queue and a free table straight away. Going around 3pm is apparently the magic time. It didn’t disappoint and was really delicious. Instead of going for the traditional seaside specialty of fish and chips (Adam and his dad opted for them though and said they were delicious) I went for a ‘choose your own fish’ platter. You can choose one, two or three different types of fish, your side and type of sauce. I chose plaice and salmon for my fish, mashed potatoes and a lemon butter to soak it in. It was delicious and worth every penny. They had a specials board which I didn’t even see that had some really nice looking dishes on as well, most of the seafood ones under £20 which I thought was really reasonable.
We always seem to stumble across random things, and this weekend just so happened to be pirate weekend in Whitby. It was AMAZING! Pirates everywhere in the streets, around every corner, and they even all got together for a ride on the pirate ship (which anyone can go on).
I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, get yourself on a boat, as seeing Whitby from the sea is the best. Can you spot the alligator in the last pic?
