Ok, so I’ve already been to Stonehenge a couple of years ago, BUT when my friend Maggie came to visit and really wanted to go, who was I to say no to a repeat visit? I mean, since I’d already taken loads of pictures I scaled them down and just soaked in the atmosphere this time around. To my surprise and extreme delight they had re-done the path around the stones to actually allow you to get closer to them than I had before. Not super close mind you, but that little bit closer made me super excited. There’s also a brand new massive visitor centre a short shuttle bus ride away from the site, which makes the site seem a bit more organic than it did before going under a tunnel to get to the stones. Along with that, they’ve recreated some clay huts that the native people of the time the stones were erected may have lived in. I really like this addition as I love museums anyway, so it’s cool to get a little bit more of an insight into the people behind the stones. Plus, how cute are the huts? There’s an indoor exhibit as well, which explains more about the people and artefacts of the area. I really think they’ve done a great job revamping everything to do with the area, and while during busy periods it will probably be a bit of a pain to wait around for shuttles, I think they’ve not only done a great job adding more information, but also preserving the site. If you’re not up for a shuttle wait, I think they said it’s about a 20-30 minute walk to get to the stones.
