When I was told that you should take provisions with you on a road trip around Iceland because there weren’t a lot of restaurants, I was ready to be armed with a bagful of granola bars and nuts. While sometimes there aren’t a lot of choices, the ones that are there seemed pretty good to me. In between visiting waterfalls working our way back to Reykjavik, we came across a small cafe called Gamla Fjósið. If you are out in this direction I’d recommend a stop.
We had a day full of glaciers when we started our drive back along the south coast of Iceland. We got up early to grab breakfast and stop off at Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon before doing our glacier hike later in the day. Being so close to the glaciers was incredible, and you can easily stop off and walk around without going on one of the boat tours, but I’d recommend them as it we learned a bit about the glaciers forming and interesting facts. Not to mention we got to try a piece of glacier!
Emma contacted me and a few other photo and travel lovers to take part in a little photo challenge, to share some of our favourite travel quotes with some of our favourite photos. I was going to chose a variety of photos from different places, but I’m so in love with my Iceland ones right now, I decided to use them instead.
One of the things that we definitely wanted to do when we booked to visit Iceland was to go on a whale watch. We put together a tentative schedule to drive around and figured Húsavík in the North would be the perfect spot. We booked our whale watch the week we booked our tickets to be sure we got a spot, and it was completely worth it.
I have a stupid amount of pictures from just driving around Iceland, and these didn’t really have a place so I’m including them today. There are also a few pictures from our short stay in Hofn, and I mean super short as in just enough time to look around the harbour, sleep in a cosy little cabin, and leave early the next morning in search of glaciers.CONTINUE READING
