In all honesty, I probably never would have found my way to Leuven if our friend Fran’s dad didn’t live there. Boy am I glad we’ve got globetrotting friends and their parents to pave the way and guide us to some good spots. Leuven boasts a large University, so it’s got a little bit of a funky feel to it in parts, and is home to one of the worlds largest bars.
Bruges is like a fairy tale city. I’m sure you may have heard this before, apparently that exact phrase is even in a movie I was told. I was in awe of how pretty this little city was, with little details everywhere you turn in sculptures, buildings, and the gorgeous river running through. We also climbed the tallest tower we’ve ever gone up. So. Many. Steps.
I’ve mentioned before, if there is a tall monument or tower we can climb to get some views, we are there. It was actually cooler than I thought though and has boards explaining a bit about the structure as well as a couple art exhibits in the different bubbles.
I didn’t have a lot of expectations when this time last year we headed off to spend a few days in Belgium. I never really thought of it as a place I wanted to go, but boy was I in awe almost everywhere we went. It’s just really pretty. The parts we saw anyways. The buildings, the shop fronts, the winding little streets, it’s safe to say after this trip I’m a little bit in love with this place.
