A few weeks ago when seeing what was on in Sheffield during Sheffield Beer Week, I came across something that looked interesting. Street artist Phlegm was taking over an abandoned warehouse and creating some statues of monsters. With the promise of disclosing the location closer to the exhibit opening time, I signed up to Our Fave Places to find out as soon as they announced it.
This post contains spoilers in the form of pictures of the art, so if you’re heading to the exhibit stop scrolling now!
The facts you need to know to plan your visit are that the Mausoleum of the Giants is going to be in the Eyewitness Works, Milton street, Sheffield, S3 7WJ until Saturday April 6th.
Opening times are :
Wednesday 12-6pm
Thursday 12-8pm (except Thursday 4th April, 12-5pm)
Friday 12-6pm (except Friday 5th April, 12-8pm)
Saturday 11am-6pm
Sunday 11am-5pm
Closed Monday and Tuesday
At busy times there are queues, we went on the opening Saturday afternoon and waited probably about an hour. You may have to wait outside the warehouse doors, just be aware that if you join this queue, it will also be another 20 minutes or so once you get inside. There is a sort of ‘holding’ area with a coffee and drinks truck and a brick pizza oven.
Only a certain amount of people are permitted into the exhibit at one time to keep it less crowded, and because of this you can get some great photos. I was excited to both see the artwork and get a peek into one of the many abandoned warehouses in Sheffield.
Phlegm has created some stunning statues that coincide with a lot of his street art. Photos don’t do this amazing artwork justice, so if you get the chance, run run run to see the monsters!
