This week was a week of home decorating. We’ve decorated most of our house, but when we first moved in three years ago, and since then we’ve wanted to make changes but keep saying “once we re-do the electrics” (which has to be done). Well, not sure we’re going to be able to do it this year so we decided just to make a couple small changes to tide us over.
First up was painting the purple wall in our living room. Most of our living room walls are beige and we picked out a ‘light purple’ colour to do a feature wall where the fireplace is. Well, turns out we aren’t the best at picking out paint colours and it was much darker than we’d thought (same with our dining room). While we liked the colour we wanted something fresher and lighter so picked out a few testers which you can see above, and didn’t like any of them. So we free-chose again with a very pale blue, which turned out to be – shocker – not so pale but we like it anyway. Now most of the other things in our living room don’t go however so we need new window blinds, new rug, and I’ll probably end up painting the dark dvd shelf. Such is re-decorating. Over the weekend we went on a little pre-birthday pub crawl to York with some friends, and failed a little at the crawling. We only visited a few places but they were good ones! On our way to Brew York, I noticed my favourite beer, Tiny Rebel’s ‘Stay Put Marshmallow porter’ was on tap so we popped in for one, all of us but two got some because it’s THAT good. We then headed to Brew York as their taproom is nice but their beer is even better. If you haven’t tried any yet get to your local bottle shop, you won’t be sorry.
At the start of the week we got on with wallpapering two walls which we’d painted bright yellow in an error of judgement (again, crap at picking out paint colours) with a cheap wallpaper we found at B&Q. At £12 a roll and only needing two rolls, actually cheaper than painting. I absolutely love how it turned out and it really brightens both walls and matches a lot better with the grey walls and carpet while still providing interest. Hanging wallpaper isn’t my favourite, Adam’s much better and more patient than I am, but I did a lot of the after cutting and smoothing!
Now that the days are starting to have more light and the Christmas decorations are put away, I’m going to try and tidy our house to take some photos and do a little house tour. I’ve been saying this for ever but I’m trying to plan my days out better to have more time to do the things I’ve been putting off.My last bit of exciting news is that we are off to Budapest on Friday! We’ve got a hotel Chocolate thing in Leeds that we got for Christmas tomorrow, so after work I’ll be in vacation mode. We’ve not got a lot planned other than a river cruise and visiting some baths, the rest will just be spent wandering as I’m told it’s a great city to walk around. I’m looking forward to dusting off my camera and hopefully getting back into my photography as well. What better than a city break to kick start everything?
Have you been to Budapest? Tell me your favourite things to do please!
