Oh hi, I’m still around! For not having any plans for December I sure made myself busy enough. I picked up another job, a bartending gig at the best new bar in Doncaster (The Queen, stop in for great craft ales that change frequently!) on weekends, and so my sleep schedule and spare time are way out of whack. I’m loving it so far though, and everyone I work with is so great. The spare travel cash will come in handy.
I am however getting a little tired of giving my “Yes I’m from America, from New York. No, not New York City, upstate, small village the countryside. Heard of Cornell University? Why am I here? I met my boyfriend at University and he’s from Doncaster. No I didn’t move here to escape Trump, but hows that for psychic prediction skills huh?” and so it goes. I love the different conversations you have with people though, I really miss that working behind a computer all week! We did manage to squeeze in our nieces Christmas dance recital, some carol singing and a festive trip to York for shopping, so all has not been lost! York is probably the prettiest place around at Christmas time, they put up christmas trees on the sides of buildings, have the market on for a few weeks, and the pubs are bustling with decorations and big cauldrons of mulled wine. We also went the weekend ice sculptures were dotted around the city, which was really cool! The warmest weekend actually so they were melting at a pretty decent rate. If you haven’t been to York I can’t recommend it enough! We didn’t squeeze in our annual christmas jumper pub crawl this year, so hopefully we can do something in the summer instead. Christmas was full of nice family time, our newest little nephew hasn’t come yet and is still cooking in Adam’s sisters tummy, but he will be here on or before January 3rd hopefully! Our nieces were so cute playing together, especially the 2 and 3 year old, they love each other. Adam’s lovely mom made us a huge Christmas lunch, followed by presents and then “dessert” which was really a second dinner, with Adam’s home made lemon cheesecake and trifle, meats, cheeses, crackers and more. I didn’t eat until halfway though the day on Monday, which is also when I got up since we didn’t get home until 4 in the morning! If you can’t indulge at Christmas, when can you? I read somewhere if you ate the way you do at Christmas all year long you would gain almost 200 pounds in a year. I don’t doubt it. We’ve booked a long weekend away for my birthday the end of January to Amsterdam, which I’m super excited for, and even more so because one of my good friends from New York is coming! She has interviews in London and Edinburgh beginning of February so can actually make the trip! She’s coming to stay with us after Amsterdam for a couple days as well, and I honestly have been doing little happy dances I’m so excited. I don’t get to share my life in England with very many people, so I get overly nuts when they come visit. Even though we’ve been to Amsterdam twice, we love that city. Plus we got flights for under £100 return from our local airport in Doncaster so really, why not?
Hope everyone had a great holiday celebration however you celebrated!
