Soooo I’ve said before, but we are going to Iceland this year! We booked our flights a couple weeks ago, and finalised our literary last week booking places to stay and what not.
Originally I thought to just sort of stay around the west side of the country, but then we were like, nahhh, let’s just see it all! So we are driving around the main road in a giant sort of circle.
When we arrive, we’ll head to Blönduós to spend the night, with stop offs along the way everywhere we go. We’ve tried to break the days into three hour driving chunks, so our first day will see us heading North to work our way across the top of Iceland.
From Blönduós we head to Myvatan, and plan on doing some sightseeing around the lake, and hopefully booking in a whale watch for the following morning in nearby Húsavík. From there will be our longest traveling day all the way down to Höfn, which will be around five hours. Lots of stop offs will be needed on this day! I’m honestly most excited about just seeing the landscape of Iceland.
From Höfn, we plan on booking a glacier hiking trip the following day to Vatnajökull, which is a glacial area taking up a bout 8 percent of Iceland. We can hopefully roam around and see more of the coastline as well.
After our glacier stop, we will head to Vik to spend the night, so we can wake up and see the black sand beaches and also enjoy some coastal time. From there, it’s back to Rekjavik to spend a few days in the city, and also go exploring around the golden circle.
I can not put into words how incredibly excited I am about this trip, we haven’t done a big road trip like this since New Zealand and boy have I missed it!
If anyone has any tips or places they think we should stop off along the way, let me know, as other than a few planned things, we are wiiiiide open for discovering things.
Have you been to Iceland? Tell me how amazing it is. Kaelene I already know what you think! 🙂
