Sunday I went to York to spend the day with two lovely London Kiwis Emma and Kelly. Since all three of us have an affinity for cake, we had to try out Betty’s. When in York right? That lemon baby at the top of the tower was mine, and I could have happily devoured another (or two) piece. I asked the helpful waitress what tea would go nicely with it she suggested the Rose one. She wasn’t wrong, the combination was delicious! Kelly opted for the Raspberry macaron, and Emma the fat rascal, which Betty’s is known for apparently. Emma and Kelly were much more thorough researchers than I. I took a giant macaron and some little ones home to enjoy later. Such a cliche. Pinkies up!Down a small alleyway was a deconsecrated church, and it was really pretty inside so I snapped a few pictures. I obviously had to take the girls to the fudge kitchen. We were lucky and they were just boiling up a batch of vanilla fudge so we could see how it was made. The room smelled heavenly. With all the mixing and then shaping the fudge, these workers must have some serious arm muscles. The finished product. We of course got to be quality control officers and make sure it tasted ok as well. Wouldn’t want to sell bad fudge right?Because cake for breakfast wasn’t enough, when we stumbled across this cute little cupcake trailer behind Yorkminster, I had to have one. The only problem was the deciding process. I finally settled on the brownie one – chocolate cupcake with brownie baked inside, topped with caramel frosting, caramel drizzle and a brownie. Kelly said that if you cut it in half, all the calories escape. So I ate mine with a fork and made sure to cut it into lots of little bites just to make sure none were left. Phew!Spot of antique store shopping. To end the day, these Londoners decided they had to have a Yorkshire pudding in Yorkshire. They braved the wind and dined alfresco on a bench. The verdict was that they were pretty tasty so I’ll have to get one next time I’m in York. I had the best day with these two, and came home with sore cheeks from laughing so hard. It was great to have a catch up I just wish we all lived closer!
