So you want to know what I eat while traveling? ALL of the food. When going to different places, it’s important to try the local cuisine, and while I do this with pleasure, I also eat the most indulgent things when traveling to a different country. My reasoning is always, well I wouldn’t do this at home, so I might as well take advantage of it here! Not to mention most places we go we walk enough to work all those calories off a little. That’s what we say to feel better about the massive amount of food we consume anyway. My hands down favourite place to stuff my face has been Italy. I pretty much get a gelato every single time we pass a shop selling it if I don’t already have one in my hand. I’d like to say I branch out but normally at least two of my choices for the day are Tiramisu. Which is another of my favourite things, Tiramisu in many of its different forms. We were once served a warm custard like version outside if Venice and it was heaven. I also take the opportunity to have chocolate/other sweet things for breakfast, because why not? Above are some chocolate filled pancaked with some cream on the side from a chocolate cafe in Florence.
Caramel banana pancakes with toffee ice cream, cream and a cone at Haagen Dazs in Brussels. What’s that, Belgium is famous for it’s waffles? Let me take this opportunity while we are here to eat them at every possible chance, and of course with every combination of toppings. I don’t normally order dessert but when in Paris and everything looks so cute, we went for a coffee and dessert specifically. Voodoo Donuts from Portland, I’m a sucker for maple frosting as it is, stick some bacon on it I’m in heaven. Cheese fondue in Berne, Switzerland.Raclette in Interlaken, Switzerland.
I’m not discriminatory, I load up on all the calorific things equally, sweet and savoury alike. An entire pot of cheese for dinner? Switzerland gets me. An entire plate of delicious melted cheese with some crunchy fried bits? Switzerland gets me.
Not pictured are the plates of pasta bigger than our heads, all the fried things, chocolates bought and consumed and much more. I definitely am of the mind of exploring a culture through it’s food, and so far I’ve not been disappointed!
What’s the favourite food you’ve had while traveling and where was it?
