Now the thing with Wentworth Castle is that you can’t really go inside. The castle itself is owned by Northern College, and it does say on their website that you can have a have a look around inside on a pre-arranged tour. We’ve not tried this so I’m not sure how easy or what the details are for it. Not being able to go inside this impressive building wasn’t an issue though, as there are beautifully maintained gardens and lots of walking paths to explore. There is also an impressive mock castle behind all of the gardens, which consists of a tower and some odd bits left to hide in or play around. We went in the spring when there was lots of flowers and blooms and little sheep running around the fields behind the fences. There are both formal and informal gardens to walk around, each having their own unique feel. Since we’ve been to visit, the team at Wentworth have restored the Victorian conservatory, which was under wraps last time we saw it. If you’d like to learn more about Wentworth and are thinking of visiting, you can head on over to their website, and also see what events are happening. I don’t know that I’d pay the admission fees for a winter visit, but if you head over starting mid March I don’t think you’d be disappointed.
The first summer I lived in England was possibly one of the nicest, and we took full advantage by going out exploring. We came across Wentworth Castle in our search for something to do close to us and since the word castle gets my ears perking, we decided to give it a shot.
