Adventures In :: England – Scarborough Castle

December 3, 2013

Last year we headed to Scarborough as I’ve wanted to go absolutely ages. Our first stop (and main objective for the day) was Scarborough Castle, up on top of a huge hill. Now, if you are expecting a grand building, this one is not for you as it is literally a bit of the castle walls and a tower. If it’s the views that you are wanting, you can’t get much better.

The property itself covers the whole top of the hill, so you can walk around the perimeter and get amazing views of the sea. Or just hang out in the grass if it’s nice enough. The seagulls thought the walls were a great place to hang out. The views over the harbour and houses below were great, and made me really excited to head down the hill. We stopped off for some fish and chips and then decided to have a walk around the side of the mountain. Our excitement was short lived as it started to downpour, with no shelter in site, so we walked for about ten minutes and got completely soaked through. I was not a happy bunny as I’m not a fan of being soaking wet, who is really? Wet jeans are the worst. So, needless to say, there’s not a whole lot else I can say about Scarborough as we hightailed it out of there. I do really want to go back though, as there’s an aquarium we missed out on! It’s a cute seaside town as well, and I do love being by the sea.

Have you ever been to Scarborough? What would you recommend doing there?

I will dream of the garlic mashed potatoes and truffle mac and cheese until I have them again. Everything was delicious except the sticky toffee pudding wasn’t anything to write home about, so grab the creme brûlée instead. Go with a friend who will share so you can try more dishes!

So this Christmas season was a pretty special one but also draining as there’s so many emotions swirling round this time of year that no one talks about.

Here’s to more adventures in 2023 and hopefully some more calm moments!
