On our way home from Hokitika, the boy and I decided to take a little detour to Punakaiki to have a look at the Pancake Rocks, which were one of the coolest natural cliff faces I’ve ever seen. Named for the pancake like rows formed in the limestone cliffs. After a short walk you are greeted with amazing views of the sea and the natural rock formations. There are natural blow holes as well where the ocean waves shoot up between the rocks, but it was fairly calm the day we went so there were no giant showers going on. It was really pretty and I think well worth a visit for the views alone!
