I had been lusting after these feather earrings for a while, but they were a liiiittle out of my price range. So I of course did what most people do when they find something they want online but can’t afford. I Pinned them to Pinterest. Obviously.
So it was with these pretty earrings in mind that when I found these gold feather earrings below at Dorothy Perkins for a mere £3, the cogs started turning. I got my bargain home and found the only black nail polish I own, Nail’s Inc ‘black taxi’. I then just painted the bottom half of the bigger feathers, front and back, and filled in the little holes on the smaller ones just to add a little more depth. I painted two coats, and was going to paint a third to achieve optimal blackness, but I like how a little gold shows through the black. Makes them look worn. The beauty – I can always repaint them later.
Overall I think they turned out pretty good! Obviously they are not as shiny and pretty as the CC SKYE feather earrings, but at £130 cheaper, I’ll go with it.
I’ve found that nail polish is a great way to add some colour to jewellery, and (for me at least) cheap jewellery can sometimes turn my skin and what not, and I find putting a coat of nail polish on (colour or clear) really cuts down on the irritation.
