After Christmas 2008 I went to England to visit Adam (we still had months of not living together at this point, and were going to New Zealand the following March) and I went to Spain for a week with his family. We stayed in a small town called Castelldefels outside Barcelona in an amazing villa. We went to a couple different places, but since we plan to go back, I’ll concentrate on Parc Guell, Barcelona.
First off, let me tell you, the park is at the top of a very very steep hill. So steep in fact there are ESCALATORS to get you to the top. Outdoor escalators. We were impressed with that in itself. Parc Guell was created by Antoni Gaudi, the whimsical touches and smooth curves really set this place as magical, much like most of his work if you are familiar with it. If you aren’t I suggest looking him up and getting ready to fall in love with his style.
While there, we went into the museum to learn a bit more about everything as well, which I suggest you do, I think it was around five euros, and entrance to the park is free anyway. We spent almost the entire day here as it’s so amazing and every corner you turn there are performers, people selling crafts, and new beautiful architectural touches to gaze upon.
Have any of you been to Barcelona? What were your favorite spots and places to give me ideas when we go back!
