As the title suggests…It’s Pancake Day today!! I’m not going to lie, we have shrove Tuesday in America, but when I found out there was a day specifically to make and eat pancakes, I got a little more excited about moving to England.(Pancakes at Haagen Dazs I ordered on a trip to Belgium)
Now, there’s a bit of controversy in this house over what a pancake is, the English boyfriend claims that they are the thin masterpiece you see above, where as I say “No way that’s a crepe” and hold firm that they are the yummy fluffy ones made in America. Funnily enough, “Scotch pancakes” are similar to American ones… also, in France they call the thin ones crepes. I use these arguments to try and win the great pancake debate.
Don’t even get me started on toppings either. For again, Adam says “I won’t put anything other than Lemon Juice and Sugar on my pancakes!!” (He then tasted the caramel and banana above and I *think* he’s more open to new combinations now) whereas I love an excuse to toss maple syrup on anything, so my pancakes, for which it is the perfect mate, is no exception.
(Sidenote-1 point to New York for having cheaper and tastier maple syrup more readily available than the U.K. ALTHOUGH I do occasionally find Aunt Jemima, a childhood classic in T.K. Maxx and snatch it up.)
Whatever you call them, pancakes, crepes, little morsels of heaven….they are delicious. For this reason, tonight we will be having them for dessert. I tried to talk Adam into pancakes for every meal of the day, but I suppose we will just have to have another pancake celebration, un-pancake day 6 months later anyone? Happy Pancake Making!!
*I’ve not included any recipes because to be honest, every time we make pancakes, I just google pancake recipes and choose one on the first page that fits in with how many eggs we have. Such planners. *
